Control the center

For the last few weeks, I've been playing 1-2 games of 10 minute online chess after my wife and kids go to bed.

One of my goals is to get good at the game, and well...

I'm definitely not there yet.

After 163 10 minute games over the last 7 years...

I went from the initial and default 1,000 ELO rating down to 100.

Then I decided to learn some basics and climb my way out of the absolute chaos of beginner online chess.

Just imagine 2 people getting together to play basketball for the first time...

But one person is trying to dribble a football and the other is reading a book on how to play as they go.

It's a mess.

It's not that I didn't know what the pieces did...

It's that I didn't know where to put the pieces to improve my position while also defending against threats.

I had no idea about tempo, openings, or even how to checkmate effectively.

And I missed a lot of now-obvious moves that would have won nearly all the games I struggled through.

The one thing I've been focusing on right now?

Controlling the center.

Super basic for those who know chess, but for those who don't?

Well, it turns out it's a great strategy at this stage, because I'm finally winning more than I'm losing.

Now I'm at a 416 rating.

I have a long way to go...

But it's kinda funny how applying basic principles tends to work out.

Speaking of basic principles (and a rather clunky segue)...

It's super helpful to follow them when you're running an email based biz.

And that's just part of what I cover inside my ebook, How To Launch An Email Based Biz.

I go over the key aspects of a landing page funnel, monetization, email writing, and growth.

You even get a checklist and daily action plan to make it super easy to follow and start getting results.

That said, I'm off to hit leg day in my garage gym, enjoy my day off from work with my wife and kids, then tonight...

It's game on.

I'm going to get that 1,000 ELO rating back, but this time I'm going to earn it.

Talk soon,
-Gabe
