Yesterday, I watched a video from a YouTube channel called Tragically Chill where he talked about a somewhat controversial topic in the online biz space:

Quitting the 9-5.

Even though his whole channel is based around building a business with YouTube and Skool and makes a full-time living doing so, he gave some really good advice:

• Don't quit and "go all in" too soon, even if you have viral videos
• Save up 12 months of expenses to put your mind at ease
• Have multiple backup plans due to the volatility of platforms

And I completely agree.

Having been someone who was trying to build an online biz while unemployed...

It's simply better to build while you have a stable income coming in.

Without it, you tend to operate from a position of neediness and your potential customers can sense that from a mile away.

It's repelling.

You might start offering more discounts and sales to keep the numbers up, when all you're doing is cheapening your offer and making less money.

You might start focusing on optimization more than getting more traffic.

You might start losing the bigger vision and replacing it with day to day survival.

I say "might" because not everyone struggles with this...

But after being in the online biz world for many years, and working in sales for over a decade either as a consultant or a manager...

I can confidently say that most people don't do well during a financial famine.

So like Mr. Tragically Chill himself says...

Don't quit the day job... yet.

Then there's the whole other discussion of self-employment or business taxes, along with operating expenses meaning you'll have to make more than you might think to make it a living.

I don't say this to discourage anyone from starting...

But I do say this because there are a lot more moving parts to manage than your average day job.
